Table tennis rubber exhibit differences with respect to the composition of their topsheet and lower rubber layer. In this context, details like pore characteristics, catchiness of the topsheet, sponge hardness, etc. considerably influence the overall properties of the material. Regarding Donic rubbers, the manufacturers provide the following information in their product catalog: Topsheet of the rubbers In table tennis, rubbers with pimples in(ward) are predominant. Most rubbers with pimples out are used by defending players. However, there are also rubbers with short pimples (out) which are used by players with focus on speed and shots. Anti-topspin rubbers are "trouble-making" rubbers because they "destroy" the spin of the incoming ball. Most of the Donic rubbers have their pimples in(ward). The sponge of Donic rubbers The sponge (also called sponge support) is an important issue. Note that a thick sponge increases the speed of the balls. The thinner the sponge, the slower the Donic rubber. The thicker the rubber, the more powerful the spin during topspin strokes, and the higher the speed. The hardness of the sponge The sponge hardness plays a fundamental role when searching for a Donic rubber which suits you best in your individual way. There is a reason for this: Such rubbers are sold the most :-) The feeling for the game primarily depends on the elastic properties of the topsheet of Donic rubbers. Details influence the character of the rubber. Such details, which are emphasized and categorized by Donic, are:

controlled, and catchy: These Donic rubbers are pointing toward an increased speed. They are very catchy, and still provide good control. Due to the low elasticity, the catchiness is (clearly) pronounced only when playing slow balls. Topspin balls exhibit relatively little spin-dynamics.
sticky: A clear stickiness improves control. Especially when playing slow balls, much spin can be generated! For example, this particularly includes serves, and the first topspin.
control-elastic: The topsheet of such Donic rubbers develops a so called spin-elasticity. At the same time, this extra spin feels like having both, more control, and an increased joy of playing. Control-elastic rubbers from the house of Donic are very suitable for players who rely on control.
sticky-elastic: The category of these table tennis rubbers exhibit good spin-dynamics. The slightly sticky surface provides good control, and an increased speed. Behind those rubbers, there is a quite sophisticated technology. Hence, such Donic rubbers are rather rare.
offensive-elastic: Speed first! That´s the credo of these rubbers. There are only little rubbers available on the market which are equipped with such a topsheet.
spin-elastic: The table tennis rubbers of this category predominate the market! They drove the version off-elastic from the market, although it is evenly fast, and exhibits a HIGHER potential regarding spin development.

The sponge thicknesses of Donic table tennis rubbers

The sponge thicknesses of Donic table tennis rubbers are similarly structured as the thicknesses of competing products. The most common forms are 1.8 mm, 2.0 mm, and max. The thicker the sponge, the faster the rubbers. Likewise, the thinner the sponge, the slower (and more controllable) the rubbers. Tip for Donic rubbers: In case you are not sure about what thickness to choose: We recommend you to choose the smaller thickness. But why?! During normal training sessions, fast rubbers usually work pretty well. You are doing nice shots, and you can correctly assess the amount of spin of incoming balls. Sometimes, you even do things which go beyond your normal abilities! During a competition or tournament, however, it is the other way around! Your are nervous, more careful, and do more avoidable mistakes. Hence, such situations require an extra amount of control.
