From today´s perspective, the Yasaka Sweden Extra is an allround (ALL) table tennis blade. This is because due to new technologies, improved manufacturing processes, etc., blades (as well as rubbers or complete rackets) are getting faster and faster; in other words: more offensive. The Sweden Extra is based on a classical veneer structure: 5 plies (natural wood) are used. In terms of its behavior, the Yasaka Sweden Extra exhibits a huge amount of control, but also sufficient speed reserves when doing forward-oriented more offensive moves to exert pressure on your opponent. The Yasaka Gatien Extra (this is its original name) is a high-quality construction made in Sweden.
It was Jean- Philippe Gatien who won the World Champion title (singles) in 1993 using this blade from the Yasaka Extra series. After that, this blade was completely overhauled and renamed in Yasaka Sweden Extra. Still, his gaming style is a legend, and so is the blade.
