Sponeta – In-house Production of TT Tables

In 1955, Sponeta first presented itself at the Leipzig Fair with a focus on sporting goods, nets, and ropes. The idea for the company name came from an advertising specialist from Leipzig, who was responsible for designing the catalogs.

The expansion of the production of sporting goods was pushed forward, especially in the area of table tennis games and rackets as well as sports nets. In 1968, Sponeta began manufacturing competition nets for table tennis, but without using the Sponeta trademark.

In 1969, the trademark "Sponeta" became part of the company name. In the following years, the product range was expanded to include table tennis tables at the suggestion of a French customer. This led to the establishment of new production facilities and the development of various models of table tennis tables.

The development of the table tennis tables took place in several steps, starting with assembleable tables, then foldable, and finally mobile tables. Experiments with weatherproof materials led to the production of tables made of glass fiber reinforced polyester resin, but later switched to melamine resin boards, as seen in the bestseller S5-73e.

In the following years, the product range was expanded to include tournament tables, and in 1981, the competition net "Sponeta Turnier" was approved by the ITTF. In 1984, the table tennis table "Primat" received a gold medal at the Leipzig Autumn Fair as the best-selling leisure table.

In 1994, an in-house testing laboratory was established to further improve the quality and performance of the tables. This led to Sponeta becoming a reliable supplier for many renowned brands.

In 2019, Sponeta GmbH received the "Secured Sustainability" seal for its efforts in ecology, economy, and social competence.
