Penholder Blades

There is a distinction between the widely used Shakehand grip in Europe and the Penholder grip technique.
With the Shakehand grip, the player holds the racket handle with the palm and fingers, similar to a handshake. In contrast, with the Penholder grip, the player holds the racket handle with the palm and fingers, but the thumb rests on the back of the blade.

The table tennis game with Penholder blades originated in the 1920s in China and spread in the following decades, especially in the Asian, but also in the European table tennis world. Today, there are fewer but still very successful players on the international level, such as the Chinese world champion Xu Xin, the 2022 European champion from Germany Dang Qiu, and one of the best European young players Felix Lebrun.

This shows: the Penholder game is alive.

Blades are distinguished by the Chinese style, which has a short flat handle, and the Japanese version, which has a long angular-globular handle. We currently offer the more commonly played Chinese Penholder blades, but we can also provide the Japanese version upon request, although most of it must be imported directly from Japan.
