Xiom Opera Euro – Controlled Directness for Fast Attacking Play
The Xiom Opera Euro takes Xiom's familiar EURO concept in a considerably more offensive direction than previous generations. Instead of an especially soft feel with a pronounced catapult effect, Xiom combines a 45.5° sponge with a relatively firm topsheet in the Opera Euro. The result is designed to deliver crisp, compact ball contact with a controlled basic response. During passive play, the ball does not rebound prematurely from the rubber. As soon as you actively accelerate, however, the direct energy transfer becomes significantly more noticeable. For the European market, the rubber is available exclusively in 2.1 mm.
This combination is particularly well suited to a modern attacking game close to the table. During fast topspins, the firm topsheet provides a clearly defined contact point and quick ball release. Blocking remains predictable, while active blocks and counter-hits allow you to generate immediate pressure. Another strength is flat hitting and finishing shots, where the Opera Euro benefits from its direct energy transfer. This distinguishes it from many medium-hard hybrid rubbers that focus more strongly on ball holding, spin and a pronounced topspin trajectory.
Interestingly, Xiom has not simply designed the Opera Euro as a softer version of the Opera Pro within the new series. The harder 50.5° Opera Pro combines a tacky topsheet with a much more pronounced tension click and is specifically geared towards active, spin-heavy topspins. The Opera Euro, by contrast, focuses on controlled catapult, early timing and direct hitting power. This makes it a distinct attacking rubber rather than merely a softer sponge variation of the Pro.
Who Is the Xiom Opera Euro Suitable For?
The Xiom Opera Euro is particularly suitable for active club and competitive players looking for a medium-hard rubber with controlled basic dynamics who prefer to generate speed through their own strokes. If you mainly play close to the table or from short distance, build pressure through blocking and counter-hitting, and regularly use both topspins and flat hits, this rubber is an excellent match. The concept is also interesting for backhand play if very soft tensor rubbers feel too unpredictable and hard hybrid rubbers are too demanding.
Within the Opera series, the Euro is the most suitable choice if you prefer a more accessible rubber with a direct playing feel. The announced Opera Asia with its 47.5° sponge shifts the focus more towards spin and a higher topspin arc, while the 50.5° Opera Pro offers a much more pronounced sticky-tension concept. The also announced Opera Pro C with 48.5° is designed to combine ball holding, dynamics and counter-attacking performance at an even higher level. Players primarily looking for a strongly tacky topsheet and maximum spin from delicate ball contact should therefore consider one of these more hybrid-oriented alternatives.
Our Recommendation for the Xiom Opera Euro
We particularly recommend the Xiom Opera Euro if you generally enjoy modern hybrid tensor rubbers but prefer a more direct setup that relies less heavily on tackiness and catapult. Compared with the Xiom Vega Euro Hybrid, the Opera Euro is likely to offer greater speed potential and more power for finishing shots. The andro NUZN 45 and Tibhar Hybrid MK FX place greater emphasis on spin, ball feel and control, while the andro Rasanter C45 is more specifically designed for spin-heavy topspins and counterloops. The Opera Euro sits between these concepts, with an unusually clear focus on the rapid transition from control to attack.
We consider it particularly suitable for controlled OFF- to OFF-rated blades as well as modern carbon blades that are not excessively fast. These combinations help preserve the controlled initial rebound while allowing the 45.5° sponge to provide sufficient support during active strokes. However, if you are looking for maximum built-in acceleration, a very high topspin arc or a distinctly tacky hybrid feel, other alternatives may be more suitable. It is precisely this deliberately more direct playing character that makes the Opera Euro an interesting option in today's rubber market.
