Great all-wood blade - The Tibhar Alexis Lebrun ALL+
The German company Tibhar is known for its high-quality products. This also applies to the blades: The Tibhar Alexis Lebrun ALL+ is an all-wood blade (i.e. without synthetic veneers/layers) that weighs around 85 g and consists of 5 layers. This makes it easy to handle, but it is not too light either. In terms of playing suitability, the name says it all: this is an all-round blade with offensive nuances (ALL+). This means that there is always very good control and great feedback, but active, powerful, and direct strokes are also possible. This is achieved through a crisp touch, among other things. In summary, this blade can be used very variably and flexibly - ideal for offensive all-rounders.
It also exhibits attractive and appealing visual properties. With its orange, black, and white color scheme, the handle looks refreshing and “bold”, which matches the character of the blade very well (available handles: concave, straight, anatomical).
The veneers of the Alexis Lebrun ALL+ in detail
As many of you will know, the playing characteristics depend directly and immediately on the (wood) materials used. In the case of the Alexis Lebrun ALL+, these are all natural woods. The thickness is 6 mm, the veneers used are Kiri (3.2 mm), Ayous (0.8 mm), and Limba (0.6 mm, face veneer). Let's take a closer look at these.
The core of this wood consists of Kiri. Kiri, also known as the bluebell tree, is native to central and western China. The trees grow to a height of around 15 meters and also thrive in Central Europe. Kiri wood is very light (density 300 kg/m3), not very stiff (modulus of elasticity 4,400 N/mm2) and relatively soft (Janka hardness 250). This shows very clearly that Kiri supports an all-round game very well, consisting of a lot of control and feeback. Nevertheless, it should be noted that Kiri is heavier and harder than balsa, making it a touch more offensive than balsa cores.
Ayous, also known as abachi, grows as a tree up to 50 m high in tropical areas of West Africa. The wood is light (350 kg/m3) and has a medium hardness (Janka: 430), but is less rigid (modulus of elasticity: 6,800 N/mm2) than Limba, for example. Ayous is known for its very good playing properties, it supports a control-optimized alignment with a high degree of feedback. However, its medium hardness also allows for more offensive moves.
Finally, the top veneer is Limba. This wood originally grows in tropical areas south of the equator and forms trees up to 45 m high. It is very popular as a timber and is medium-heavy (density 520 kg/m3) and medium-hard (Janka hardness 430). It is also quite stiff and strong (modulus of elasticity approx. 9,500 N/mm2). This shows that this veneer can be used for offensive purposes. The harder and heavier the wood, the more offensive it can be. Limba is known in particular as a fast, but not bouncy, topspin blade, especially in Europe. However, its control is still well developed.
