Especially beginners often wonder which table tennis racket is best suited. Often, other, more experienced players are asked because one hopes for helpful feedback from them. In addition, the question often arises whether an expensive racket is always better and which is the best table tennis racket. I would like to address some basics of racket selection in this article and clear up some misunderstandings.
Club Beginner Table Tennis Rackets from Donic
It is important to recognize that beginners in table tennis have completely different requirements for a Donic table tennis racket than advanced players. This often leads to experienced players giving incorrect tips regarding racket selection. You often hear, for example, "Better to play with a really good table tennis racket from the start so that you get used to it early." However, these professional rackets are often fast and offensive blades and rubbers. These characteristics are not well suited for beginners, as they do not cope well with the wrong Donic table tennis racket and thus have less fun playing, as they learn and progress less and more slowly.
The learning phase in table tennis lasts about 1-2 years and is characterized by learning the various basic techniques, such as topspin, backspin, first serves, etc. Particularly important are the coordinative skills to learn the techniques and later apply them specifically to the game. In addition to the techniques, individual playing styles also develop: These are defensive, offensive, and all-round playing styles, with finer gradations in between.

- Offensive Blades (Off): The Off blades are fast blades, meaning the ball is given a relatively high speed and bounces off the racket faster. However, precision and ball control suffer as a result. Therefore, Off blades (and corresponding Off rubbers) are also less suitable for beginners, as their ball feel is not yet sufficiently developed, causing the balls to be hit uncontrollably and often go out or into the net. This severely affects the enjoyment of the game and drastically reduces learning success. A Donic table tennis racket for beginners should therefore not be too fast.
- All-round Blades (All): The All blades are the middle ground between Def and Off blades and thus provide a good foundation to learn both styles well. They offer a broad base and are therefore usually the best choice for beginners. After some time, one can still specialize in Off or Def, but nothing should be rushed at the beginning. What to consider with Donic Rubbers
A Donic table tennis racket consists of a Donic blade and, of course, two Donic rubbers. The weighting is such that the blade represents the soul of the racket. It conveys the basic characteristics for the entire Donic racket. When this table tennis racket is equipped with rubbers, the playing behavior naturally adapts. Similar to the blades, there are also different speeds of table tennis rubbers.
The following principle applies: The faster the rubber should be, the thicker the sponge should be chosen. Most Donic rubbers are equipped with sponge thicknesses from 1.8mm to max (approx. 2.3mm). If you want to get a fast Donic rubber, you should choose the Max version. The disadvantage of a maximum rubber is the lack of control, which can be generated more with a 1.8mm sponge thickness.
