The New Impuls 6.5 is a table tennis blade from Donic, which is very suitable for all gaming concepts and levels. Particularly allround and allround plus (All / All+) players perform very well using this blade. The 6.5 mediates a great feeling for the game, the strokes go off the hand very easily, which is also based on the great control. Why is this? To answer this question, it is worth taking a closer look at the veneers (by the way, the overall thickness is approx. 6.5 mm).The core (or inner) ply of the New Impuls 6.5 is made of Kiri. Kiri is a tree which grows in Central and West China. Cultivations of this tree, however, can also be found in Japan, Korea or North America. The tree reaches a height of up to approx. 15 m. Kiri quite light (density: 300 kg/m3), medium strong (Young´s modulus: 4,380 N/mm2), and relatively soft (Janka hardness: 250). However, Kiri veneers are denser, more durable, and harder than e.g. Balsa layers. Hence, Kiri plies are heavier and faster than Balsa plies (allowing also offensive moves from time to time, hence All+); but they still exhibit much control, feedback, and a moderate to low speed, which underlines its general suitability as an allround (All) TT blade. Also the neighboring veneers of the Donic New Impuls 6.5 are made of Kiri.
The outer (or finishing) veneers are made of Spruce. Spruce is native to Europe (except the British Isles and the Iberian Peninsula), but also to large parts of Asia. Spruce trees can reach an age of 600 years, a height of approx. 60 m, and a trunk diameter of approx. 2 m. The trees grow very quickly, and they are very frost-resistant during the cold months. Spruce is a bit heavier (density: 420 kg/m3), harder (Janka hardness: 300), and way stronger (Young´s modulus: 11,000 N/mm2) than Kiri.
Although spruce is generally associated with a more defensive orientation (it is - compared to other woods - relatively slow, and has a good control), it is still harder than Kiri. Hence, Spruce is a bit faster than Kiri, which makes it also suitable for All+ purposes. This is particularly the case since the outer veneer of this table tennis blade is made of Spruce. So in case you push the game from time to time by doing forward-actions, the New Impuls 6.5 is a good choice for you (without having to give up control).
