Sauer & Troeger Hellfire X - The next highlight from the successful Hellfire series!
The German company Sauer and Troeger (located in Bendorf, Germany) is a fix and highly established term for so-called material players, with special regard to rubbers with pimples out. Currently, the company is managed by Sebastian Sauer (founded with Pascal Troeger). Within the long-pimpled rubbers, the Hellfire rubbers are popular around the world. With the Sauer und Troeger Hellfire X, there is now another product available which we would like to present to you. Be curious!
As already mentioned, this Sauer and Troeger rubber was developed within a 3 year test and development phase. During this process, Sebastian Sauer (himself THE specialist for long-pimpled rubbers in Germany) and other top pimple players were involved. It was the aim to develop a long-pimpled rubber in order to meet and exceed the current requirements (e.g., with respect to the new plastic balls). In general, the Hellfire X provides a very good feeling for the game and a highly balanced behavior in terms of speed, control, the disruptive effect, and the development of spin. More on these issues further below.
Sauer & Troeger Hellfire X - The pimples under closer examination
The pimples from the Hellfire X from Sauer und Troeger exhibit some special features. For example, the heads of the pimples can buckle easily and very well, which of course stores energy (similar to a spring) and can then release it again, positively influencing the speed development. Furthermore, the ball can also "hug" the surface of the rubber in a better way in this way. This has a positive effect on the development of spin. Third, the ball is also slowed down at rubber contact, so the speed is literally reduced and the feeling for the game is improved.
The above-mentioned properties are achieved by means of the large inter-pimple distance and a high aspect ratio. Also, the heads of the pips are slightly roughened / rippled and relatively wide, whereas the necks are smooth. These features are optimal to increase the amount of static friction, leading to more spin.
The material underneath appears relatively thick and transparent. The version without a sponge (OX) is primarily designed for players preferring a direct game close to the table. The sponge can be described as medium-hard.
Sauer & Troeger Hellfire X - gaming properties
At this point we want to put our emphasis on the gaming properties of the Hellfire X. One thing is certain: its general range of usage is the variable and disruptive game. This long-pimpled rubber is indeed demanding, especially when playing close to the table due to the dynamics. The corresponding gaming system is DEF+ (defensive plus) and ALL (allround).
As already mentioned, the long pimples result in a slowing down at ball impact. This becomes particularly evident when doing blocks, making the Hellfire X highly suitable for short and flat balls behind the net. In general, the balls lose their "height" pretty quickly, hence challenging the opponent. This is further supported by spinless balls and a pronounced disruptive effect of this rubber. Particularly worth to mention is its development of backspin when defending. This Sauer and Troeger rubber also forgives errors (e.g., when receiving serves) and is not prone to spin.
When handling the Sauer & Troeger Hellfire X in a more offensive fashion, it is also capable of generating unpleasant trajectories. For this, however, a certain level of power is necessary. By the way, during passive situations, a certain power and pressure is always recommended for this rubber. Otherwise, the rubber is more prone to errors and behaves too passively. Also pseudo-topspins are possible. The ideal field of application of the Hellfire X is the variable disruptive game with a great placeability of the balls. However, experience, training, and skills are necessary in order to master this rubber. Only then you can fully and more easily exploit its potential. This rubber shows some deficits when it comes to "back-placing" the balls.
In case the Hellfire X is your choice, TT-Shop wishes you a lot of fun and success with this long-pimpled rubber. If not, we hope to have helped you clearing your choice.
