The New Impuls 7.0 is a table tennis power allround blade, which clearly tends toward attacking (All+ / Off-). It is characterized by a high speed, and is receptive to rotational offensive moves. A good ball control, however, is maintained when doing e.g. returns, balls over the table, or soft blocks. Hence, there is - blade-specifically speaking - nothing in the way for a variable game with focus on attacks, and the pure joy of playing! By the way, the overall veneer thickness is 7.0 mm.The core veneer of the 7.0 is made of Kiri. Kiri is a tree native to Central and West China. Cultivations of this tree, however, can also be found in Japan, Korea or North America. The tree reaches a height of up to approx. 15 m. Kiri quite light (density: 300 kg/m3), medium strong (Young´s modulus: 4,380 N/mm2), and relatively soft (Janka hardness: 250). However, Kiri veneers are denser, more durable, and harder than e.g. Balsa layers. Hence, Kiri plies are heavier and faster than Balsa plies (allowing offensive moves, hence All+ / Off-); but they still exhibit much control, and feedback. Also the neighboring veneers of the Donic New Impuls 7.0 are made of Kiri.
The outer veneers of the Donic New Impuls 7.0 are made of Spruce. Spruce is common in Europe (except the British Isles and the Iberian Peninsula), but also in large parts of Asia. Spruce trees can reach 600 years of age, a height of about 60 m, and a trunk diameter of about 2 m. The trees grow very quickly, and they are very frost-resistant during the winter months. Spruce is a bit heavier (density: 420 kg/m3), harder (Janka hardness: 300), and way stronger (Young´s modulus: 11,000 N/mm2) than Kiri.
Although spruce is generally associated with a more defensive orientation, it is still harder than Kiri. Hence, Spruce is a bit faster than Kiri, which makes it also suitable for All+/Off- purposes (especially when doing the right techniques, and using appropriate rubbers). This is particularly the case since the outer veneer of this table tennis blade is made of Spruce. Additionally, the 7.0 is thicker than the 6.5. Therefore, there is a larger total amount of Spruce (behaves more offensively, hence faster) compared to Kiri (behaves more defensively, hence slower).
