Donic Impuls Dotec - Basics and Impuls Technology
Also in 2019, Donic presents a bunch of new, innovative products. One of these products belongs to the category table tennis blade, and is called
Donic Impuls Dotec. Although this TT blade is based on 9 plies, it only weighs 80 g, and is only 7.0 mm thick! The Impuls Dotec is manufactured in China, and is available as a right-handed and left-handed version. Its gaming style is suitable for All+ and Off- players, further details in this regard are provided below.
One striking feature of this blade is the technology used: The so called
Impuls-Technology. Although it sounds similar, we are not dealing with Star Trek here, but with completely terrestrial technologies. In terms of the vibration behavior of TT rackets, Donic is developing and conducting research - for over 30 years! Back in the 1990s, Donic was already able to successfully implement their research outcomes into the market. In those times, the Dicon and Senso technologies were introduced, and the following series production revolutionized the structure of table tennis blades.
In 2000, the
Impuls Technology from Donic was additionally used. There was a technological procedure which considerably contributed to this immense success: A special soft bonding method glued the respective veneers with each other, the so called Soft-Gluing-Process. This new and innovative technology was particularly used for the Waldner Impuls 6.0, and for the Persson 7.0 / 7.5. The results of this technology were, for example:
- phenomenal acceleration and control of the ball
- standard edge protection
- optimal weight, and perfect sound
- high breaking strength
Donic Impuls Dotec - 9 plies for a perfect game
In addition to the technology itself, other things are, of course, also of great importance. The materials used as veneers are of high quality, and are thoroughly chosen. In total, the Donic Impuls Dotec is based on 9 plies:
Yaya, also called Lati or White Wenge, is a tree which reaches a height of approx. 30-46 m, and a trunk diameter of about 60-120 cm. Yaya is native to West and Central Africa. Yaya wood is quite heavy (785 kg/m
3), and hard, but softer than e.g. common Wenge. Hence, the heart beating in the chest of the Impuls Dotec is clearly an offensive one.
Black adhesive- or tissue layer made of Carbon: In table tennis blades and rackets, this material causes an increased stiffness, directness, power, and speed. Hence, Carbon is another material which highlights the suitability of the Donic Impuls Dotec as a blade with offensive capabilities.
Koto grows in West Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, and Cameroon, and is a tree approx. 30 m tall, with a trunk diameter of about 1 m. Koto is medium heavy (590 kg/m
3), but quite hard (Janka hardness: 950), and quite strong (Young´s modulus: 9,000 N/mm
2). Koto plies are so called classical plies which are well-known for their
fast and spinny gaming behavior.
Balsa is a tree which is native to neo-tropical regions (South America, Central America, and the West Indies). It reaches a height of approx. 50 m, whereas its trunk has a diameter of up to 2 m. Balsa is very light (density 130 kg/m
3), not strong (Young´s modulus: 2,600 N/mm
2), and very soft (Janka hardness: 88). You can see that this wood is perfect to reduce weight. Furthermore, the softness of the wood causes very pleasant overall gaming properties of the Impuls Dotec: e.g.
good control, much safety, and much feedback. Due to Balsa, this blade is not a purely offensive one, but OFF-/ All+. Note that, despite its softness, balsa is also known to exhibit good
catapult effects.
The properties of the
Donic Impuls Dotec kind of reminds us of the Impuls 7.0: Unsurpassed control and feedback with every ball contact, paired with the necessary amount of offensiveness to be able to attack whenever it is desired (All+/Off-).
Donic Impuls Dotec - Summary
The Donic Impuls Dotec is a
new and innovative blade. Due to the
Impuls technology, it convinces with highly balanced and phenomenal properties. The well-proven
Dotec system causes the typical "Impuls Feeling", which is further strengthened by the integrated
Carbon fibers. The Impuls Dotec is available for right- and left-handed players. Furthermore, this TT blade consists of 9 veneers, and is particularly designed for
All+ / Off- table tennis players. Despite the high number of veneers, this blade only weighs approx. 80 g.
