Donic Burn OFF - The most offensive of all Burn blades
Although the
Donic Burn OFF exhibits the same wood types as the other two Burn blades (namely Mahogany, Awan, Kiri, Awan, Mahogany), there is a difference associated with the core veneer. The Burn Off has a thicker core veneer (Kiri) than the other types. Below you can find some information on these wood types and what they can do in a table tennis blade.
An important aspect is the
Thermic Burned Technology: Prior to gluing, the veneers are dried at 200 °C for a duration of 24 hours. This eliminates remaining moisture and prevents subsequent bending, shrinkage, or any other deformation. Of course, this thermal procedure also increases the stiffness and stability of the blade.
Donic Burn OFF - The plies under closer examination
We have heard of the individual wood types used in the
Donic Burn OFF. For now, let´s have a closer look at these starting with the core veneer:
Kiri. Kiri is a tree native to Central and West China. However, cultivations of this tree can also be found in Japan, Korea or North America. The tree may reach a height of approx. 15 m. Kiri is quite light (density: 300 kg/m
3), not very strong (Young´s modulus: 4,380 N/mm
2), and not very hard (Janka hardness: 250). However, Kiri veneers are denser, more durable, and harder than e.g. Balsa layers resulting in a faster behavior.
Awan seems to be an art term for a specific type of wood. Using this name, instead of its real name, might aim to prevent people from copying it. The only information we were able to find is that Awan is a
relatively light wood. Hence, this provides
control, feeling, and an excellent feedback.
Mahogany is a very noble wood. There are several species, which are native to tropical areas around the world. Depending on the species, the trees may reach a height of up to 60 m with a trunk diameter of up to 3 m. Mahogany is medium-heavy (550 kg/m
3), but extremely strong (Young´s modulus: 13,500 N/mm
2) and very hard (Janka hardness: 700). From these properties it becomes evident that such hard Mahogany veneers promote
speed, directness, and much power! This underlines the offensiveness of the Burn Off.
Donic Burn OFF -Final remarks
From the above-mentioned, there are also other positive aspects. For example,
topspins and shots can be accelerated in a highly effective and pronounced manner. This allows you to exert much pressure on your opponent. Although the overall blade is quite hard, you can also serve
controlled and sensitive strokes. This is due to the excellent feedback.
One aspect is the enlarged
sweet spot area. The sweet spot of a table tennis bade is defined as the area of its head where we can find homogeneous (or simply the best) gaming properties. The larger the sweet spot, the better. This also helps you to
reduce the amount of avoidable mistakes, for example, in case you do not optimally hit the ball.
Another positive aspect of this blade is its weight of approx. 90 g. Even if you are using hard and heavy rubbers, the racket will
not be top-heavy. This makes the Donic Burn OFF the perfect blade for a powerful, attacking game based on fast topspins and shots.
