In 2020, Joola shows off with innovative blades. In addition to the Vyzaryz or Xylo series, there is another series called Santoru. These ping pong blades are characterized by the implementation of synthetic materials, which mediate special properties. Particularly, the Joola Santoru 3K-c is based on the combination of Carbon and Hinoki, which primarily stands for one thing: Much power!
The outer plies of the Joola Santoru 3K-c are made of high-quality Hinoki. Since these are located far outside, underneath the rubber and ball, they are a main contributor to the properties of the blade. Hinoki (Chamaecyparis obtusa) is originally native to Central Japan, the tree reaches a height of up to 40 m, and the trunk reaches a diameter of 1-3 m. Hinoki wood is a noble wood with a high resistance to e.g. moisture or rot, is medium heavy (density: 440 kg/m3), quite strong (Young´s modulus: 9,000 N/mm2), and medium-hard (Janka hardness: 550).
As can be seen, Hinoki is heavier and stronger (hence also faster and more offensive) than e.g. Linden, Kiri, or Balsa veneers. This also results in a quite fast, direct, and powerful game optimally complementing the offensive heart of the Santoru KL-c Inner. Hinoki also mediates control and feeling. Additionally, the Santoru 3K-c exhibits quite a flat trajectory.

Joola Santoru 3K-c - Hard blade with additional Carbon reinforcement
Let us first get started with the material Carbon. Carbon is a fiber made of carbon (C). In table tennis blades, such fibers are aligned as a flat or planar matrix. Carbon is very strong, stiff, and tear-resistant. At the same time, however, this material has a low weight, which is advantageous in terms of the mass balance of the blade. Due to these material characteristics, Carbon makes a table tennis blade significantly faster, more direct, and powerful.
