Donic New Impuls 7.5 - High-tech as a recipe for success
Donic blades - this is pure quality, made in Germany! This is a common phrase when it comes to advertisement. In the case of Donic, this slogan is pure reality! This is also true for the new Donic New Impuls blades, such as the
Donic New Impuls 7.5. This table tennis blade hows that decades of research and expertise are worth it. The result is really impressive: Due to the new New Impuls Technology, completely new gaming and damping properties are achieved! This is because of a new and
innovative latex / epoxy gluing film used to join the veneers with each other. This process also results in a perfect feedback of the ball, much control, and - of course - much power!
Donic New Impuls 7.5 - The individual plies under closer investigation
The TT blade
New Impuls 7.5 is highly suitable for many offensive strategists (Off- / Off). This broad character results from the high speed of this blade (details below), combined with its almost completely stiff elasticity. Besides the high speed and stiffness, there is always sufficient control! In total, the veneers exhibit a thickness of approx. 7.5 mm.
Let´s first start with the
core veneer (inner ply) of the Donic New Impuls 7.5, which is made of
Kiri. This tree which grows in Central and West China. Cultivations of Kiri, however, can also be found in Japan, Korea or North America. Kiri grows up to approx. 15 m in height. Kiri wood is quite light (density: 300 kg/m
3), medium strong (Young´s modulus: 4,380 N/mm
2), and relatively soft (Janka hardness: 250). However, Kiri veneers are denser, more durable, and harder than e.g. Balsa layers. Hence, Kiri plies are
heavier and faster than Balsa plies (this emphasizes their role in this Off-/Off blade); but they still exhibit
much control, feedback, and a moderate speed. Also the neighboring veneers of the Donic New Impuls 7.5 are made of Kiri.
The outer (finishing) veneers are made of
Spruce. Spruce is native to Europe (except the British Isles and the Iberian Peninsula), but also to large parts of Asia. The tree can reach an age of up to 600 years, 60 m in height, and a trunk diameter of about 2 m. The trees grow very quickly, and they are very frost-resistant during the winter months. Spruce is
way stronger (Young´s modulus: 11,000 N/mm
2) and
heavier (density: 420 kg/m
3) than Kiri.
Although spruce is
generally associated with a more defensive orientation, it is still
harder than Kiri (Spruce Janka hardness: 300). Hence, Spruce is a faster than Kiri, which makes it also suitable as an Off-/Off TT blade, especially when using the right techniques, and appropriate rubbers! This is particularly the case since the outer veneer of this table tennis blade is made of Spruce. Additionally, the 7.5 is
thicker than both, the 7.0 and 6.5. Therefore, there is a larger total amount of Spruce (behaves more offensively and is faster) compared to Kiri (behaves more defensively, and is slower).
The Donic New Impuls 7.5 is mainly characterized by its speed and hardness, perfect for hard topspins and shots, but also for aggressive blocks. With only little physical effort you can reach a maximum of penetration and power! Not least due to the soft(er) core and intermediate veneers made of Kiri, there is always sufficient feedback, and control.
