Let´s get started: Kevlar-Carbon, this is the name of the synthetic material used for the Santoru KL-c Inner. As the name already suggests, this material is located in the inner parts of the blade. Hence, the soul or heart of the blade is based on the properties of this material.Kevlar is a synthetically manufactured Aramid fiber, which is significantly stronger than many other fibers. Kevlar is known as Poly-p-phenylene-terephthalamide (PPTA) and is a polyamide. Carbon is also a synthetic material, similarly strong. Kevlar-Carbon is a kind of new Carbon fiber and is very strong, tough, heat-resistant and dimensionally stable. As a table tennis veneer, Kevlar-Carbon induces an increased stiffness, speed, and power. This also reduces unpleasant vibrations, the blade behaves more precisely and very direct.
The outer veneers of the Joola Santoru KL-c Inner are made of Hinoki. Since these layers are located far outside the blade, they considerably determine the blade´s gaming properties. Hinoki wood (Chamaecyparis obtusa) is originally native to Central Japan, whereas the trees reach a height of up to approx. 40 m, with a trunk diameter of about 1-3 m. The wood, a real noble wood with a high resistance, is medium heavy (density: 440 kg/m3), quite strong (Young´s modulus: 9,000 N/mm2), and medium-hard (Janka hardness: 550).
From these properties we can conclude that Hinoki is clearly heavier and stronger (hence also faster and more offensive) than e.g. Spruce, Kiri, or Balsa veneers. This results in a quite fast, direct, and powerful game, which optimally supports the offensive heart of the Santoru KL-c Inner. Since Hinoki is not too hard, it also mediates control and feeling.
