Joola Nobilis PBO-c - Guaranteed quality and unique characteristics!

The extraordinary gaming characteristics of the Joola Nobilis PBO-c are based on the high-quality materials and special composition used for this table tennis blade. In detail, we are talking about a core veneer made of Kiri. Furthermore, PBO-fibers are also implemented, which are commonly used in Formula 1 and in aerospace engineering. For now, let´s have a closer look at these materials as they contribute to the properties of this blade from Joola. We will begin with the heart (also called soul) of the blade: The core veneer. This is made of Kiri.

Kiri is a tree native to Central and West China. However, cultivations of this tree can also be found in Japan, Korea or North America. The tree reaches a height of approx. 15 m. Kiri is quite light (density: 300 kg/m³), not very strong (Young´s modulus: 4,380 N/mm²), and not very hard (Janka hardness: 250). These properties make the heart of the Nobilis PBO-c sensitive and soft with good control and feedback. Note, however, that Kiri veneers are denser, more durable, and harder than e.g. Balsa layers. Hence, they are heavier and faster than e.g. Balsa plies.

"PBO-c" is a premium synthetic high-tech fiber, which is extremely tear-resistant and very elastic. They are based on PBO fibers, which are interwoven with Carbon (hence the name PBO-c). PBO fibers (Poly(p-phenylene-2,6-benzobisoxazole)) are very tensile, tear-proof, and exhibit only little shrinkage (dimensionally very stable). Carbon fibers are very light, but still very stiff and highly stable. The combination of both these fiber types make the Joola Nobilis PBO-c a blade with a very soft touch (due to the core veneer) and a significantly increased amount of dynamics, speed, and precision (due to PBO-c). This combination is the main contributor to the unique feeling of this table tennis blade.

Joola Nobilis PBO-c - What else is there to tell?

For one thing, due to PBO-c, the Joola Nobilis PBO-c is very stable, reduces unpleasant vibrations, and enables a very direct as well as precise game. For another thing, also the core veneer contributes to the soft touch of the ball. Furthermore, the Nobilis PBO-c induces a very even bounce behavior and an enlarged sweet spot area (the area of the head of the blade where we can find optimal and homogeneous gaming properties). This also reduces the rate of avoidable errors.

The outer veneers are made of Hinoki (thickness: 1.2 mm). Hinoki is originally native to Central Japan. The trees reach a height of up to approx. 40 m, with a trunk diameter of about 1-3 m. Hinoki is medium heavy (density: 440 kg/m³), quite strong (Young´s modulus: 9,000 N/mm²), and medium-hard (Janka hardness: 550). These properties make Hinoki a very pleasant veneer, incorporating a certain amount of feeling and control. Also, the above-mentioned ball contact time is increased, enabling rotational balls with a relatively high trajectory of the ball.

Finally, it is the combination of these thoroughly chosen materials and layers which provides much penetration power without sacrificing control and precision. With a weight of about 80-85 g, this blade is quite light, which reduces the physical effort to accelerate the blade. It is also available with a straight or flared handle, which suits most players.
