Sponeta Indoor Ping Pong Tables - This is what you should know!
Indoor ping pong tables from Sponeta are -as the name already suggests- for indoor use only. The material for these tables is typical and commonly used for indoor tables.
The materials used are small wooden particles or chips which are then bonded together using adhesives. The name of such materials is particleboard or chipboard. Especially fine chipboards exhibit a relatively low weight, which makes it easier to move the table. Nonetheless, indoor tables are still heavier than outdoor tables because the surface boards are also quite thick (commonly 16-25 mm, whereas outdoor table surfaces are only 4-6 mm in thickness).
However, fine chipboards are relatively inexpensive, which is one main factor explaining the price differences between Sponeta indoor and outdoor ping pong tables. Some tests and expert opinions have suggested that indoor tables are approx. 50% less expensive compared to outdoor tables.
In big stores, an inexpensive ping pong table is already available for approx. 150 Eur. The quality of such tables might be ok and sufficient for some people, but such tables are definitely not convincing. As a general rule, one should calculate about 200 Eur for an indoor table with sufficient quality settings. Of course, there are also indoor tables for 600 Eur.
An easy handling is an important and specific property of indoor tables. After the game, it is important to quickly, easily, and space-economically stow the table.
Another function, which is specifically highlighted for most Sponeta tables, allows that one person is already enough to play table tennis. One half of the table can easily be folded up (playback position) so you can literally play with yourself. Most indoor ping pong tables also exhibit rolls allowing an easy transport without back pain.
In order for you and your family to have much fun with an affordable indoor table from Sponeta, you should consider the following aspects:
Please only use indoor tables indoors. The room should not allow direct sunlight and should exhibit normal humidity conditions. Also, too cold rooms with no heating option during the cold months may damage the table. Garages with no walls or "easy" walls which are not tight against moisture may also damage the indoor table.
The above-mentioned hints are very important, as chipboards are very sensitive when it comes to moisture and cold. In such cases, poor gaming properties coming from the surface are possible. This may negatively influence the bounce behavior of the ball affecting the joy of playing. Also, direct sunlight should be avoided, as these materials are not robust against UV radiation. With these hints, you can avoid dwelling or other problems with the surface of your indoor ping pong table. Please also avoid storing indoor tables outdoors even though you are using a protective foil.
This doesn´t mean that you can never ever use an indoor table outdoors. For an occasional use, when the table is not in direct sunlight and when the other weather conditions are fine, a match outside is of course possible. Our indoor table overview shows, what properties and criteria are important when aiming to buy such a table:
Thickness of the chipboard:
The thickness of the chipboard is a key indicator in terms of the quality of the table. As a general rule: The thicker the board, the better the gaming properties. Ambitious club players are recommended to select a thickness of 22 mm, which is really good. The problem is that when you use a different thickness at home or at your club, this will affect and change the ball behavior. This change may then of course be detrimental. For hobby and recreational purposes, thicknesses of about 16 to 19 mm are usually sufficient.
Total weight:
Good ping pong tables usually exhibit quite a high weight. Here, a similar rule applies: The heavier the table, the better. The reason for this is that a stable base frame weighs more than an unstable one, based on the larger profile measures.
Hence, large dimensions of round tubes, rectangular profiles etc. are important to increase overall stability and quality of the table. This feature is over the weight aspect, since all tables have rolls. As an orientation, good ping pong tables weigh about 100 kg. Club tables, for example, weigh about 120 kg.
Price:
Of course, the price of the table is a decisive factor and usually an indicator of quality. Hence, we recommend not to be too "stingy" when it comes to tables. Once purchased, you will have much fun for years, provided of course you apply the right treatment. Cheap indoor tables only exhibit a limited durability.
Other criteria:
When searching for a ping pong table, you should also be aware of your own gaming level. Professional table tennis tables make little sense for beginners. Since there are also tables with a folding-up-mechanism or stationary tables, you also need to consider the available room.
Outdoor Ping Pong Tables from Sponeta - What do I need to know?
Most (Sponeta) outdoor ping pong tables are made of melamine resin. However, in some occasions manufacturers also use aluminum. Melamine resins (melamine-formaldehyde condensation resins) belong to the category of synthetic resins, which are made of melamine and formaldehyde bonded together and belonging to the duroplastic plastics. The surface board of many outdoor tables is made of this material.
The melamine board from the Sponeta outdoor tables has a thickness of 4.5 - 10 mm. It is resistant against all kinds of external weather influences, such as solar radiation, rain, snow, ice, etc. Hence, no dwelling or warpage effects are present.
Although Sponeta indoor table tennis tables provide a better bounce effect and a more professional gaming behavior due to the chipboards, its properties are not suitable for a permanent outdoor usage. Dwelling and cracks following moisture is only one negative example.
The price range for outdoor tables is about 200 - 800 Euro. If you are interested in a hobby outdoor table for occasional fun with friends and family, 200 Euro is fine. If, however, you want to play in a more professional way and on a more regular order, we think that a starting budget of about 400 Euro is more appropriate.
In terms of outdoor ping pong tables, there are of course different (quality) classes ranging from A to D. A represents the highest and best class, containing tables suitable for competitive sports. D is the lowest class category, suitable for the recreational and hobby sector.
- the following rule applies: The higher your own gaming level and your own demands, the more money you should invest.
If you treat your table in an appropriate way and take all precautions / care, a table can easily do its job for more than 10 years without any problems. Although rain and other influences do not directly harm an outdoor ping pong table, it accelerates a natural wear and tear. Hence, if you are not using your outdoor table for a longer period of time, it makes sense to cover it with a (Sponeta) cover foil or to place the table in the shed.
Hence, during the winter, you can stow your outdoor table in the garage or in a shed. In terms of the construction, outdoor tables exhibit different base frames. The base frame can either be made of solid metal, such as steel (usually powder-coated) or aluminum, and it is usually foldable and has wheels. Solid frames are the preferable version in case the Sponeta table should be used at a certain location. Thanks to a mechanism, the table can be upfolded and can easily be transported by the wheels.
The more stable the base frame, the more comfortable and safer the transport of the table. It is important to use swiveling wheels. The wheels should also be lockable, so that the table will not move when being in use.
No matter what table tennis table you might select (indoor or outdoor, more expensive or not, etc.), the
Sponeta ping pong tables are the market leader with a long-lasting experience!
