With the new Omega VII rubbers, Xiom was able to start a small revolution in terms of Tensor rubbers. When developing the
Xiom Omega VII Pro, Xiom did not put the focus on using a sponge as thick as possible
. This is different to many other manufacturers. In contrast, a significant
reduction of weight was their priority. The result of this effort is truly impressive. After cutting and tailoring the rubber, its weight is about
5 g less compared to other medium-hard Tensor rubbers of other manufacturers.
This, of course, opens even
more options in terms of the combination of blade & rubbers. For example, in case you prefer heavier blades, you can now use them because of the lower weight of the rubbers. On the other side, you can also combine the light Omega 7 Pro rubbers with a light Balsa blade to obtain a light(er) overall racket. You see, there are numerous possibilities waiting to be discovered and tested by you.
It is very important to know that the reduced weight is - of course - not the only aspect this rubber convinces with. It is also characterized by its
great gaming characteristics. The Omega VII Pro exhibits a
catchy, elastic topsheet, and a
large-pored sponge (hardness: 47.5 °). Hence, it is a medium-hard, powerful TT rubber suitable for powerful attacks.
Both, the integrated catapult effect, and an excellent energy transfer, result in an efficient acceleration of all attacking strokes you do. Successful topspins can be executed with
lots of rotation and pressure. This is possible not only when being close to the table, but also when being further away from the table - depending on the situation you are in.
The wide and large trajectory of the ball makes it very difficult for your opponent to return your hard finishers. Furthermore, it is also difficult for your opponent to find/hit the ideal spot when blocking your controlled attacks (this is also true for the new plastic balls). The high basic speed makes it also easier for you to actively and precisely block attacks coming from your opponent.
During passive blocks, however, you first need to develop the required amount of feeling. This is important because otherwise, due to the large catapult effect, balls might go down behind the table. This rubber also allows you an ideal start for rallies: This is achieved by the
high spin potential of the
Xiom Omega VII Pro. Variable and highly rotational serves are no problem, too. During the rebound game, providing you found a good position with respect to the ball, all flip versions and short balls succeed.
Note that a
good technique, a high playing level, and regular training positively influence your performance (success, getting safer, etc.) when using this rubber. Many players have been waiting for lighter Tensor rubbers for years. With the Xiom Omega VII Pro, the waiting is now over! This rubber is reduced in weight, and is designed for all dynamical topspin players.
As a summary, you can find an overview showing the main differences between the Xiom Omega 7 rubber series (all offensive & low-weight):
- Xiom Omega VII Euro: This medium-hard (45°) table tennis rubber is designed for variable attacks. The 7 Euro is very suitable for dynamical topspins from the mid distance, for safe blocks. This rubber is further characterized by an elastic topsheet and thin pimples. Gaming style: Offensive minus (Off-).
- Xiom Omega VII Pro: A more powerful rubber which has a catchy and elastic topsheet, and a medium-hard (47.5°) sponge. This rubber is made for hard shots and spinny topspins from any position. Gaming system: Offensive (Off).
- Xiom Omega VII Asia: Harder than the Omega 7 Pro (52.5°). Hence, the Omega VII Asia exhibits increased dynamics. Also a very catchy topsheet. A very direct, fast, and quite controllable rubber keeping in mind that it is a very offensive rubber. Gaming style: Offensive plus (Off+).
- Xiom Omega VII Tour: This is the hardest (55°) rubber within the Omega 7 series. It is characterized by being extremely fast & catchy. Optimal speed transfer! There is only one gaming style that best describes this brutal weapon: Offensive plus (Off+)!
