Donic New Impuls Blades

The new Donic New Impuls blades

You think that the Impuls blades from Donic are the latest craze? Wrong! Now, in 2019, the German high-quality company Donic shows off with the New Impuls TT blades, and keeps being even more successful! Based on the successful technology (which reaches back many years!) of the Impuls blades, there was another technological optimization. Currently, there are 3 models among the New Impuls blades: The Donic New Impuls 6.5, 7.0, and 7.5. Keep reading to see the reasons as to why these table tennis blades are so special!

Donic New Impuls - Quality meets High-Tech

In terms of the optimization of table tennis blades, Donic is very active since more than 30 years! An incredible history, paired with the heart on the job, passion, research, and innovations. This is particularly true to further improve the vibration behavior of TT rackets. Maybe you still remember when the Dicon or Senso technologies reached production maturity back in the 1990s, and revolutionized the whole table tennis world.

Finally, in 2000 the waiting was over, and the Donic Impuls Technology was born. By means of a special soft bonding procedure (so called Soft-Gluing process), the veneer layers were put together in the Waldner Impuls 6.0 and 6.5, and in the Persson 7.0 and 7.5. These models were then true best-sellers! With the development of these technologies, certain positive properties - typical for Donic - emerged, such as:

  • excellent acceleration and control of the ball
  • standard edge protection
  • high fracture strength
  • perfect weight & great sound
Now, in 2019, the unique technological innovations from Donic find a continuation. The New-Impuls-Technology, or the New Impuls blades, are the result of these developments. Please also note that the (New) Impuls technology is also designed to match the requirements of the new plastic balls (without celluloid), resulting in many advantages. The new plastic balls (also called cell-free) are known for their low(er) development of spin, and slowness. With their blades and rubbers, Donic successfully counteracts these detrimental effects.

Donic New Impuls 6.5, 7.0, and 7.5 - A first overview

The new Impuls blades are based on a Spruce-Kiri-Kiri veneer combination, which is glued using a special latex / epoxy adhesive film. This procedure is completely new, resulting in fundamentally unique and unprecedented damping as well as gaming characteristics. The New Impuls 6.5, 7.0, and 7.5 represent ideal choices, so that players of all levels are able to choose the appropriate blade. In combination with the appropriate rubber, you can now discover previously unimagined spin, speed, and rotation features. Note that the control is still unsurpassed! The respective number of these table tennis blades represent the degree of offensiveness (the higher the number, the more offensiveness): From 6.5 (which equals All/All+), all the way up to 7.5 (Off-/Off).

These properties are, as already mentioned, also achieved by the natural woods Spruce and Kiri, which are used as plies. Kiri is a tree native to Central and West China. However, cultivations of this tree can also be found in Japan, Korea or North America. The tree may reach a height of approx. 15 m. Kiri is lighter (density: 300 kg/m3), less strong (Young´s modulus: 4,380 N/mm2), and slightly softer (Janka hardness: 250) than Spruce. However, Kiri veneers are denser, more durable, and harder than e.g. Balsa layers. Hence, Kiri plies are heavier and faster than Balsa plies, but they still exhibit much control and feedback.

Spruce (Picea abies) is native to Europe (except the British Isles and the Iberian Peninsula), but also to large parts of Asia. Spruce trees can reach an age of 600 years, a height of approx. 60 m, and a trunk diameter of approx. 2 m. The trees grow very quickly, and they are very frost-resistant during the cold months. Spruce is not very heavy (density: 420 kg/m3), not very hard (Janka hardness: 300), but very strong (Young´s modulus: 11,000 N/mm2). In general, Spruce veneers make TT blades not very fast. Instead, there is much feedback and control. However, due to the large Young´s modulus, there is always the possibility for offensive moves. As already mentioned: When using suitable rubbers, you can even obtain a really good offensiveness, without neglecting control!

Please note that the fine tuning regarding the gaming style (All, All+, Off-, Off) is not only achieved by the wood types described above, but also by: a) the techniques you are doing, and b) the rubbers as well as rubber thicknesses you are selecting.
